Fixx sat alone in his office in Main Engineer, his mind playing over the events of the last several day. It was a whirlwind of chaos and uncertainty. His Assistant Chief of Engineer lay in sickbay recouperating with an encounter with something he was no long entirely sure what it was. As he lifted his head from his hands, he breathed out, trying to think of a way forward. Then he remembered something Admiral Lucatz had suggested weeks ago, that they hadn't bother to follow through on. Possibly now to their detriment.

"Fixx to Lieutenant Barrett? Are you busy? I need to see you about the alien freighter?"

=/= Barret here. What's your location? I'll meet you there."

She had heard about the freighter but until now Science had been left out of the puzzle.

"I'm in my office down in Engineering, Lieutenant. I'll see you soon. Fixx out" he leant back hoping that Lieutenant Barrett and her team could shed some light on the freighter- or whatever it turned out to be.

Gathering a few items, Susan made her way to engineering. Once the formalities were out of the way, she got straight to work.
"How can Science help with the freighter?"

Fixx looked up from his desk and leant back in his chair, "You've read the situation with the freighter I take it?" Barrett nodded. It was more of a rehtorical question. Everyone on the station knew about it, about the death of Chief Kyle and the attack on Lieutenant Hallet, "Before Hallet was.... hospitalised," he paused, making his disdain of Hallet's medical incarceration very clear, "we had come up on potential leads as to the nature of the alien freighter. Hallet theorises that some sort of crystal is controlling the ship and he's adamant that the ship is a lifeform. After recent events, I'm inclined to put my skeptism to one side and believe him." he shook his head, "I just don't know it could be. That's where you and your science geeks come in Lieutenant."

"I'm certainly willing to help. Are you familiar with the Vanguard station that was located in the Taurus Reach. The leading theory among the science department is there is somehow a connection between the events there and what's happening here."
The event had been classified but thankfully the files had recently been declassified allowing Susan and her team to access the information.

Fixx was silently impressed by Barrett, her team had been working around the clock as well to find out what was going on aboard the ship. Fixx wondered whether Lucatz had brought her into the loop about this Mirdonyae-artefact like device Hallet was speculating powered the freighter- or whatever the hell it was. "I'm not intimitely familar with the situation like Lieutenant Hallet is but I know enough to know that the Mirdonyae artefact was a horrific piece of technology and if there is even something remotely like that at work here we are all in trouble" he paused, a chill of fear passing over him, "What I'm struggling to understand is Hallet's claim that the freighter is alive and it's communicating with him. I genuinely can't understand how."

This part was news to Susan, but considering the circumstances not fully surprising.
"Species 8472 are known to have biships and Starfleet uses bioneural gelpacks so it's not fully surprising that the ship is somehow alive. As for the Vanguard connection, I talked with several biologists and they tell me there are similarities between the attacks now and the attacks by the Shedai. Right now it's all just a theory, but it's the best we got."

Fixx's eyes bulged in surprise, "You're saying that a Shedai may be on the loose aboard that ship?" and then another, more horrifying idea came to him, "Or that the ship itself is... somehow a Shedai?"

"I'm not saying either one of those. I'm saying there are similarities in the incidents, anything further at this point would be speculation. But from what I've read on the Shedai, I think it would be more likely there is one on the ship than the ship being a Sheai."
Susan was being careful with her phrasing on purpose. She didn't want to cause the situation to get out of control because of a misinterpretation of her departments analysis.

Fixx leant back in his chair and ran one hand across his bald head, sighing, "Lieutenant Hallet is convinced that the ship itself is some sort of lifeform. He claims that it has spoken to him and that if we don't release it from the hangar bay, it'll destroy the station. What do you make of that?"

"It's certainly possible, perhaps we should try communicating with it. Broadcast  linguacode friendship messages on multiple frequencies, see if that gets a reaction."
The idea of a sentient ship was a new one to her, but not entirely impossible all things considered.

Fixx thought about the idea for a second, "Maybe we should try and get Lieutenant Hallet to communicate with it again. It's seems to have wanted to talk to him when he was unconcious- perhaps if we can recreate the conditions of the first time he was contacted by... whatever it is". It was an idea that both intrigued and frightened the usually unflappable Bolian.

"It's possible, although it might be wise to bring medical onboard with this. Just as a precaution."
Susan wasn't fully comfortable with the idea but if the others involved were OK with it she was willing to try it.

"I'll have somebody join us, Lieutenant." Fixx leaned forward, "I hope for our sake this works".

Hallet found himself looking at the alien lifeform from one of the several galleries that dotted the hangar bay where it was moored to the station. He could not take his eyes off the creature as he studied every contour and every feature of it's hull... no, skin. ("Whatever it is, it scares me") he thought, realising at the same time that he was also fascinated by the creature. Why was it posing as a ship? Where had it come? Why did it hate the station and it's inhabitants so much. Despite his fear, he felt for the first time in a long while a sense of purpose. He knew that he was meant to help unlock the secrets of this mysterious creature, this lifeform that the crew had stumbled across. Turning away from the window and striding out of the gallery, he made his way towards Engineering. It was time to solve this mystery.
